OTTAWA– --- January 28, 2009 --- With only four weeks to go, the anticipation is building as the Ottawa Valley’s largest, most popular boating and outdoors consumer show celebrates its 35th year. It gets ready to make a big splash as several of Canada’s top anglers and outdoorsmen prepare to reveal their award-winning techniques.

Come see what’s bringing thousands of people to discover over 200 exhibitors showcasing the regions largest selection of new boats, acres of gear, gadgetry and tackle made especially for fishing, cruising and camping. Devoted boating, fishing, and outdoors enthusiasts will be thrilled when checking out the The Ottawa Boat and Sportsmen’s Show, running from Feb. 25 to Feb. 28.

Special Features at The Ottawa Boat and Sportsmen’ Show

Meet-and-Greet with Bob Izumi: Canada’s most celebrated fisherman has been sharing his angling secrets for years to millions of eager fisherman on his hit TV show Real fishing. He will be doing it in person at the 2010 Ottawa Boat and Sportsmen’s Show. Bob will be offering seminars that nail down some of the unique shortcuts he’s developed over the years to hook the big catch; along with autograph signing sessions. (Friday and Saturday only)

Go-Fish with “Big Jim” at The Minto Jackpot Casting Pond: If you think “go fish” is only a card game, then it’s time to get outside to cast a real reel! Join Ottawa’s own two-time C.F.T. Canadian Classic Champion Jim McLaughlin at the Minto Jackpot Casting Pond to learn everything you need to know about fishing. Jim will be there with helpful demonstrations to help improve your angling skills and offer opportunities to win great prizes.

Blind Fishing Boat Revealed: The world’s Blind Fishing Boat will be featured at the Ottawa Boat & Sportsmen’s Show. The boat, developed by Lawrence Euteneier, who is legally blind, incorporates mainstream and assistive technologies in his 12-foot fishing boat. Technological advancements on the boat include combining GPS, sonar and a talking compass, allow him to navigate and fish on small bodies of water on his own. Come and meet Lawrence with his dog Maestro and discover a man with a passion for fishing that lead to innovating boating.

Stay Clear; Stay Safe: Ontario Power Generation’s Water Safety Day offers a series of seminars and information on the importance of being safe and reminding people that recreational activities near hydro stations and dams are dangerous. Additional information on how amateurs can learn boating and fishing safety by obeying all warnings, signs, booms and buoys. Receive a special FREE OPG gift when attending a seminar. (Saturday only)
‘Canada In the Rough’ with Thomas Pigeon: Documentary TV show Host, Thomas Pigeon, routinely brings his viewers unparalleled adventure, outstanding videography and exemplary insights into hunting North American wildlife. Pigeon’s session will entertain, educate and take you to some of the most beautiful places Canada has to offer; while sharing useful tips, experiences and situations encountered while exploring our nation’s rich hunting resources. Cam Brownson talks turkey: Join Cam Brownson, Executive Producer and Host of the OFAH Angler and Hunter TV-series as he offers great techniques to give you the edge on hunting monstrous whitetail deer and bagging trophy turkey -gobblers. From site selection to feeding habits, Cam’s session is sure to help make your next hunt a successful one. (Friday and Saturday morning only)

Laugh with fishing funny-man Dave Mercer: One of today’s most sought-after fishing seminar speakers and TV Host of Facts of Fishing® THE SHOW, will be at the Minto Jackpot Casting Pond to offer his wealth of knowledge, sense of humour and leave you coming back for more. (Sunday only)

Ontario Out of Doors’ Lonnie King: Ontario Out of Doors Magazine’s Walleye Editor and Orlèans-raised Lonnie King has been described as one of ‘Ontario's most versatile anglers.’ He will share his tips for fishing smallmouth bass and Ice Fishing for walleye and panfish in the Ottawa area. His lifetime of fishing experience is complimented by a degree in Fisheries Biology. Not only does Lonnie apply this knowledge when on the water, but he brings these insights when speaking, writing and reporting on the wide range of species he fishes for. (Saturday and Sunday)
